Jokes my dad sent me!

Some things to ask yourself...

1. Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are getting weak?

2. Why do banks charge a fee on insufficient funds when they know there is not enough?

3. Why does someone believe you when you say there are four billion stars, but check when you say the paint is wet?

4. Why doesn't glue stick to the bottle?

5. Why do they use sterilized needles for death by lethal injection?

6. Why doesn't Tarzan have a beard?

7. Why does Superman stop bullets with his chest, but ducks when you throw a revolver at him?

8. Why do Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?

9. Whose idea was it to put an "S" in the word "lisp"?

10. If people evolved from apes, why are there still apes?

11. Why is it that no matter what color bubble bath you use the bubbles are always white?

12. Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?

13. Why do people constantly return to the refrigerator with hopes that something new to eat will have materialized?

14. Why do people keep running over a string a dozen times with their vacuum cleaner, then reach down, pick it up, examine it, then put it down to give the vacuum one more chance?

15. Why is it that no plastic bag will open from the end you first try?

16. How do those dead bugs get into those enclosed light fixtures?

17. Why is it that whenever you attempt to catch something that's falling off the table you always manage to knock something else over?

18. In winter why do we try to keep the house as warm as it was in summer when we complained about the heat?

19. How come you never hear father-in-law jokes?

20. If at first you don't succeed, shouldn't you try doing it like your wife told you to do it?

21. And obviously if at first you don't succeed, then don't take up sky diving!

22. The statistics on sanity are that one out of every four persons is suffering from some sort of mental illness. Think of your three best friends, if they're okay, then it's you.

=)

Randomness

I move in three days. I'm sooo excited. It's going to be a lot of fun, I'm going into college like what I like to think as a more mature and wiser guy than I was when I left high school? Idk I learned a lot this summer about life and attitude and what's important...how there're many imperfections in everyone and the first step into fixing them is recognizing them in yourself, set aside the shame and the pride...

i'm growing, but finally i'm learning, through God. open up and you're led the right way. this summer God and a few close friends really made me feel refreshed.

on another note, i write about my excitement because we ordered a laptop today. i'm most excited, it'll last me throug the years and be my companion.

and also, my first order off of ebay...a card guard chip poker item thing, for good luck, hasn't come in and i paid for it a week ago. over a week ago. grr.

Memorable Experience (AOL "Reality Series")

"AOL is kicking off a new internet documentary entitled Project Freshman and you have been selected by LSU to apply as the star of the show! You have been selected by LSU to apply for this exciting experience because we think you are an excellent student who would do a great job of documenting the LSU freshman experience."

That's how it all started. No big deal right? I know the message wasn't geared specifically for me or anything, but I checked it out anyway- summer had been slow and I had the time. So I filled it out, and it had about 20 questoins or so. Pretty lengthy but entertaining because it really got me excited for college.

Anyway, that was done and over and I went on with my life, but then I got a call the next day on my cell phone. It was Darren Eichorn. He worked for AOL and said he reviewed my application and AOL was really interested in going further with me and considering me for their show or whatever. So I get excited and what not and we talk for a while and he tells me why they're interested, and wants me to take the next step and send in a video.

"Below are some hints to making your video submission. Overall, we want you to speak on some of the stronger points of yourapplication.Remember to connect everything to going to college. Be specific. Tell us
your point of view and why on subjects. Give examples. Show us visually whenever possible. Support your statements with friends, family or members of your community. We are looking for specific story elements that we can look forward to in the semester."

That was a looong email on what to do with the video and all, but that was the opening paragraph. Pavan and I shot a video all day...on the canoe at sundown, playing bball, in the car, in the mall, at the poker table. I accidently recorded over a graduation tape =\ Shhh don't tell brother or parents. Anyway I did that with the attitude that i BETTER get it, because that was important! I felt really bad about that.

"Congratulations! You are finalist for Project: Freshman. This means that out of several hundred applications and videos received to date you are among 20 candidates being considered. We are moving forward because we are very interested in you so if you have any problems please feel free to call me or email me and I will help you out."

This email was sent to me after Darren called and said AOL was even more interested or whatever and wanted me to officially say on the phone I'm willing to do this, agree to the terms, etc. I did, and was very excited. Even turned in the discolure forms. -sigh- He told me my pay, a $100 a week and a new digital video camera. Sounded real good!

Anyway so we had emails and quite a few phone calls with Darren, it was a great experience. At the end of it all, with Darren giving me the heads up and filling me in a week ago on the phone, it was reiterated in this final email.

"Dear Sanjay,

I just want you to know that you are our 7th Man. AOL liked you so much that
they tried to find extra money to include you in the series. That said,
you're our #1 alternate. If anyone drops out, you're in.

We really appreciate you hanging in there and you're interest! We all think
you're exceptional.

Chris Sloan
EP, Project Freshman"

And obviously after something like that you have little "what ifs" and such. And I do have one myself, I didn't include one topic they may have foudn interesting or been looking for about college, and that was how it was predominantly conservative and idk blah blah. Oh well, all things happen for a reason. And, I told myself a while back I would have been happy either way. Because it would have taken time and all, and I woulda been out there or what not. ALSO, one reason I feel I may have not been picked is because he called while I was in New York, and asked "Hey Sanjay we were calling to see your availabiliity for us coming down and shooting you leaving your home and moving in and all. Are you freee from August 8 to August 11th?" AND I HAD TO TELL HIM NO! Because that was the week of BIOS boot camp. I'm afraid when he ahd 10 people or whatever, a quick way to pop some out would be check availability. Because from the 12th I had to move in on the 18th and that's like a tight squeeze. Idk, again. No dwelling over whats what. But it was an interesting experience, and I'm appreciate it even got that far.

people..

Yeah so today marks a really really sad day for me. I mean I knew it was coming for the last few months, but the reality didn't sink in until today. I was supposed to be insured for one more month...we'd find it somwhere, I was told...just bc the one we have wont insure me anymore. Well, it was too expensive everywhere, and my dad put an ad in the paper to sell the one tangible gift I adored appreciated and care for more than anything else.

The first accident in December was a hit and run. Someone was in my lane around a curve on Highland, and to avoid them we went off the road. Simple? Not when you run into a bricked electrical box.

Costs were high so any more accidents within the next two years and they wouldn't insure me anymore. That's fine, I learned to drive responsibly and not neglect the road or driving even once, bc i realized whats on the line every time.

I'm driving down the interstate one day and I need to switch lanes. The lane next to me is completely clear, so I start switching. Three fourths there, a Ford who probably looked like effin 10 seconds before is about to merge RIGHT into me. So I hold the horn loudly, and stall my merge for 2 seconds so he could see I'm already there. He moved back, and things were fine.

What's NOT fine is the girl behind me who's going at least 90 mph down the lane i was in, and doesnt even wait for me to complete switching lanes. She's in such a hurry she's ready to pass me up, and the second I had to stall so the truck would see I'm merging, she had to swerve to the left to avoid rear ending me. Loses control of her car cuz of her excessie speed, and partially hits the wall. for the future,

1) slow the fuck down
2) wait for the person to finish swtiching lanes before u go ahead and pass them up

because of you i cannot drive for 3 years and lost my car. because of your negligence.

but honestly, if you learned from the incident like i learned from my first, i dont hold any hard feelings or any grudge against you at allll. im glad u were able to understand the potential for losing everythign with negligence to the road, like I did in my first time, and hopefully itd prevent anything that might have come in the future. its a blessing to learn a lesson without getting hurt.

but if you didnt learn anything and're still running around like that? argh.

at first i just somewhat wept at the fact that im losing my most prized, valued, and cared for materialistic possession. I was sad about the fact I won't drive for the prime years of my younger ages.

but it didn't take me long to realize i was being extreeeemely selfish. who am i to cry about losing a car when SO many people dont even have the opportunity to ever drive one, and some proudly earn theirs at a later age. forget losing a car, many people lose things much greater. i feel horrible for feeling bad or sad about losing just a car. i honestly feel selfishly horrible. i'm sorry, i am. God bless,

a very fortunate individual.

1. I can't reach my license unless you hold my beer. (OK in Texas)
2. Sorry, Officer, I didn't realize my radar detector wasn't plugged in.
3.Aren't you the guy from the Village People?
4. Hey, you must've been doin' about 125 mph to keep up with me. Good job!
5. Are You Andy or Barney?
6. I thought you had to be in relatively good physical condition to be a police officer.
7. You're not gonna check the trunk, are you?
8. I pay your salary!
9. Gee, Office r! That's terrific. The last officer only gave me a warning, too!
10. Do you know why you pulled me over? Okay, just so one of us does.
11. I was trying to keep up with traffic. Yes, I know there are no other cars around.. That's how far ahead of me they are.
12. When the Officer says "Gee .Your eyes look red, have you been drinking?" You probably shouldn't respond with,"Gee Officer your eyes look glazed, have you been eating doughnuts?"

The last set of cousins left today! It was sad to see them go, but somewhat of a relef too. I don't get to see my cousins very often, but when they're in town my life's like on pause. No phone calls, no seeing friends, just paused and hanging out with my cousins.

We played tons of games like Mafia (idk if you've played it but we're pros), Sherades (spelling?), Pictionary, Psychiatrist. It's great because like my cousins are 30, 24, 20, 18, 16, 13 and 12, and though like the upper half of us grow up in between the times we see each other we still play games and pull all nighters like we're little kids. We know nothing else. We do have conversations to get to know each other however, but those are private.

I beat my uncles in poker which was exciting. A few of them play regularly but it came down to me and one of my best friends, he was the guest at the table, and he won after catching 3 rivers. I won 10 bucks.

OTHER than that, my grad party went well...saw my Indian community or whatever and family and stuff. I love my cousins man they're awesome. They're all unique in their own ways and sweet and we just get along well. Holler at family love. I'll elaborate some time soon!

Sanjizzle.

CHILDREN ON MARRIAGE & DATING

(1) You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
-- Alan, age 10

(2) No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.
-- Kirsten, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

(1) Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
-- Camille, age 10

(2) No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
-- Freddie, age 6 (very wise for his age)

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

(1) You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
-- Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

(1) Both don't want any more kids.
-- Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

(1) Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)

(2) On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that
usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
-- Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?

(1) I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
-- Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

(1) When they're rich.
-- Pam, age 7

(2) The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.
-- Curt, age 7

(3) The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.
-- Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

(1) I don't know which is better, but I'll tell you one thing. So the Managers go out to the flagpole with ladders and tape.

They're falling off the ladders, dropping the tape measures - the whole
thing is just a mess.

An Engineer comes along and sees what they're trying to do, walks over,
pulls the flagpole out of the ground, lays it flat, measures it from
end to end, gives the measurement to one of the managers and walks away.

After the Engineer has gone, one manager turns to another and laughs.

"Isn't that just like an engineer? Like it held ALL your emotions...from excitement to grief to ur adreneline. It really like makes u appreciate stuff u have and like teaches u the true meaning of things in life and stuff. I'm trying to sound as guyish as i can with using the term "stuff" so i seem like i really dont care but--

anyway yeah, so go check that out. call me if you're going ill go again =) I start at Express tomorrow! It's my orientation, I'm going to be there from 9 am to 1 pm and then 1 to 5 at american eagle. YEP, I ended up doing both, just talked to the managers. Hopefully the time conflict won't be too bad.

Also, I'm trying to get a new screen name and email addy and all. Write down your suggestions? Winner gets a cookie. Here's what i'm brainstorming with-

- the color blue
- the combination of "blue" and "boy"
- my nickname sanju
- numbers can be 10 or 87 or 05 (played out tho)

hmmmm!

-Whew-

Man so much has been happenign sine I've come into town. I like how my summer's keeping busy and productive, I literally have not had time everyday so far to get done what I wanted to get done.

I worked out after about 2 weeks today and am not happy with the experience. I'm like strugglign with stuff I did pretty easily 2 weeks ago so I need to stop lazying around and not eating properly and all and get this shiz together.

I got a job now for the summer at American Eagle. I like the place a lot...like the atmosphere, and the people...they're all really cool and nice and it's more comfortable to be in, unlike Hollister. Hollister was just crammed and a lot of people were arrogant and idk it just wasnt as fun. But I don't like the clothes at AE as much and like Hollister's clothes a lot more so idk. I also heard back from Abercombrie (i think...it may have been a joke, cuz they asked a few questions like "are u attractive" which I was like idk i cant answer that and they hung up so idk) and Express but I don't think I can take either cuz I'm committed to AE. I did however sign up for some candle cart where the owner's really nice so that'll be tight. It's a chill job and I could kill some hours I guess and make a lil more money.

I've been playing poker since I got back into town, and I swear like this "Poker King" shirt from Aeropostale is GOD SENT. I played once before I left for Destin and twice since I've come back...and I've come out ahead EVERY TIME I wore it. All three that is. And I totaled 48 dollars in winnings. but then the week in destin I played twice and ended up losing like 8 dollars, didn't win once...so iiiidk we'll just have to see how it goes!

MY BIRTHDAY IS IN 4 DAYS!! It's on SATURDAY and you can what you can DO to make me TOTALLY HAPPY? I never see people on my bday cuz the last 3 years I've been out of town and its never during school so IF YOU WERE WONDERFUL you'd come see me working at AMERICAN EAGLE while you're getting ur shopping done! At the Mall of LA, I work from 9 AM to 5 PM. And it would mean SOOOO MUCH for someone to come to say happy bday.

SOOO MUCH!

Okay with that said I think I'm going to head out. Go Spurs! And best of wishes for all.

Weeks in a nutshell

I'm leaving for Destin today! Just thought I'd let y'all know, won't be back until Friday, May 21st. I'm gonna miss you Betsy! And all of the rest of my friends too, of course. Good job with getting out of school! Have a safe and fun summer.

I've been keeping very busy since graduation. I've done all kinds of done stuff with my family...we went to a Mother's Day outing to Kamado's I think? With like a few Indian families. I also went to the zoo for a company picnic with the family, and an indian graduation party last night. I've been going to the mall way too frequently, looking for a job. I got one at American Eagle and had the interview for Express yesterday. It went pretty well.

I'm really really worried right now and aren't saying nearly everything I'd like to say because I'm 45 minutes over the alotted time on my cingular bill, and like my dad gets really upset when I go at most 10 minutes over. I dont know WHAT im going to do. -sigh-. eff.

Graduation went well I guess. Everything ran smoothly and I had a good time with friends and all. I'm just kind of really really upset about an honor distinguish certificate they had or whatever. I've complained about it like crazy, and its sooo my fault. You need like an ACT of 30, a GPA of at least 3.8, a courseload of APs and Honors, and all As and Bs since middle school. Yeah so uh, met the requirements every semester until my LAST ONE. SECOND SEMESTER SENIOR YEAR. I got my first C in bio and therefore, yeah..

Fun things I've done recently have been playing basketball with my friends (which I probably enjoy most), poker (where I finally came out AHEAD after all those all-night poker online stuff), hanging out with Betsy (well this would be the most), and eating. A LOT. I don't eat like often, but when I do, its been pretty unhealthy. I also went to the Gymnastics banquet a few days ago. Like one of my biggest regrets thorughout high school is not doing gymnastics as a freshman- its like the most challenging sport ever and asks a lot out of you and a lot of practice and idk I just love it. I wish i had done it earlier. But I learned a good bit and am going to continue like practicing and learning in the gym or whatever.

Alright well looking down at the keyboard I see that I don't have much I have to say, probably because of worry and lack of sleep. I also see that I need lotion. Have a great week and be very safe,

Sanju.

SORRY in a rush, dont know lj cut!

Ecology- Study of interactions of populations with one another; Ernst Hackel

Chapter 23

- We are part of communities of populations interacting with one another
- The interactions are varied but generally they invalue competition, predation, and symbiosis
- These interactions control diversity and size of populations
- Factors which limit populations ize
A. Competion
1) Intraspecific competition- competition for resources among members of a population
2) Dominance- some animals live in dominance hierarchies that determine social positon and importance dominance is determined by a contest. The dominant animal eats first and mates first
3) Territoriality- successful competiotns establish territories that they defend against others. The best defenders usually have the best territories and the best food sources. Less successful defenders have less desirable territories with less food. Some have no territory. These animals produce fewer or no offspring.
4) Interspecific competition- similar types of species compete wiht one another for resources- H20, food, sunlight and space. The outcome of this is usually predominance of one spcies and the virtual elimination of the other. (man have done this ni many places)
- Biologists have formulated the competitve exclusion principal. This states that no 2 species can occupy the same niche at one time. This came about from experiments which showed that competiton among species does nto always lead to expansion of one and the restriction of the other. Sometimes species partition available resources so they can live in the same ecosystem.
- "Niche" refers to the role a species plays in a community of organisms.
- "Habitat" where it lives
- B Predation
- one organsim feeding on another
- the organism being fed upon- prey
- Through the evolutionary process predators became adapted to capturing their prey.
- Effects of Predation
- Helps limit size of population
- Experiments in lab have shown this
- Predator prey pressure relationshps do stabilize. Predator pressure eases as propluation of prey
decreases. Sometimes predator will switch prey.
- Sometimes human interaction upsets this balance
- Coyote keeps praire dog in check (?)
- Antipredator Defenses
- While predators have evolved strategies to secure the maximum amount of food- (talons, keen eye, sight, fangs, sense of smell, etc) prey hae developed strategies to escape
- Plants have developed throns, poisonous chemicals
- Mimicry
- occurs when one species resembles another for its own benefit
- sometimes it protects. sometimes it helps a predator capture food
- snapping turtle's "worm" tongue- angler fish "worm appendage"
- Batesian Mimicry
- a prey mimics a species that has a successful antipredator defense
- Flies that look like wasps
- Monarch/Viceroy (some question)
- invovles prey
- Mullerian Mimicry
- mimics that share the same protective defenses
- coral snake; scarlet king and milk?
- stinging insects, bees, wasps, have similar bandings and color
- involves predator
- Symbiosis
- Relationship between 2 different species
- Parasitism
- parasite derives its nourishment from its hosts
- Commensalism
- one species is benefited and the other is neither harmed nor benefited
- Barnacles, Remoras, Epiphytes, Clown Fish/ Sea Anemones
- Mutualism
- both benefit
- Bacteria/Human Intestine
- Lichens (Algae, Fungus)
-The Biosphere
- The earth is enveloped by the biosphere which is a thin realm composed of water, band, and air where organisms are found. The biosphere contains communities of populations which interact
- The largeest communities are called biome (on land)
- Aquatic Communities
A. Fresh Water
- are lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams
- There are 3 life zones in a lake
1) Littoral- closest to the shore
- aquatic plants; micro organisms
2) Limnetic- sunlit main foods
- plankton (phyto & zoo); small and large fish
3) Profundal- deepest part which light does not penetrate
- mollusks; crustaceans
B. Saltwater- (Marine)
1. Coastal
A. Estuaries form where large rivers flow into the ocean
- most are shallow and have good light penetration
- temprature is usually higher
- acts as a nutrient trap. Tides bring nutrients from the sea, but they also prevent escape of nutrients brought by rivers
- serve as nurseries for marine fish and crustraceans (like shrimp)
B. Salt marshes- often adjacent to estuaries.
- habitat for wildlife
C. Rocky shore- barmacles, small, crustaceans, mussels, alge grow attracted to rocks
D. Sandy beach- shifting sands all homes for ghost crabs, sandworms
E. Coral reefs- warm tropical water. serve as hosts to all sorts of animals. made up of remains of coral palyps
2) Oceans
- covers about 3/4 of the planet
- big variety of plants and animals
- greater concentration where sunlight gets to organisms
- in deeper waters, animals look different
- they lumincose (?)
- Terrestrial Biome
- success is an orderly sequence of communities
- each one prepares the way for a more complex community that follows
- the complete sequence of communities is called a sere
- each community is a seral stage
- biomes are the final stages (climax community which can be associated with definite regions of the world)
- primary succession begins ith bare rock
- it is subjected to weathering
- lichens begin to grow and further break down the rock
- mosses and ferns take hold
- as soil builds up, longer growing plants begin to grow
- shrubs and trees are last
- secondary succession
- occurs in regions that have been disturbed
- pioneer community containing plants that can grow in limited nutrients colonize first, then native plants, shrubs and trees
- succession is an observable phenomenon. as succession proceeds, diversity increases
- Treeless Biomes
- deserts occur in regions which annual rainfall in less than 25 cm
- days are hot because of lack of cloud cover
- nights are cold because heat escapes easily into atmosphere
- vegetation includes small leaves, not succulent shrubs such as sage brush
- succulents like cactus which have extensive root systems
- plants flower for a limited time
- some animals are adapted to a desert life; reptiles and rodents probably most common
- Tundra
- in artic region. only top layer thaws; the permafrost is always frozen
- growing season is very short. patches of lichens and mosses can be seen animals include ptarmagin, musk ox, and numerous showbirds and waterfowl that migrate
- caribou and reindeer
- Grasslands
- occur where rainfall is more than 25 cm but is insufficient to support trees
- grasses have extension rooot systems which allow them to recover from drought of animals
- tropical grassland is called savanna
- the african savanna supports a diverse group of animals
- a prairie is a temperate grassland (US Midwest)
- few trees, only grasses are found on the prairie
- Chaparral
- in South Africa, Western Australia, Central Chile, around hte mediterranian and in california most of the rain falls in the winter and summers are dry.
- there is a dnse scrubland known as chapparal.
- shrubs have wavy (waxy?) leaves and thick underground stems
- rodent and reptiles are most common animals
- Forests
1) Taiga
- coniferous forests- climate is cold winter adn cool summers. Growing season is less than half a year. Rainfall is 40-00 cm a year with heavy showers
- few consumes species- birds of prey, lynx, wolf, moose, rodents
2) Temperature diciduous forests
- Eastern North America, Asia, and much of Europe

Words of Wisdom

Our elders grow and learn before we do. Here's an email I received with some things to think about

I've learned....
That we should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

I've learned....
That money doesn't buy class.

I've learned....
That it's those small daily happenings that make life so spectacular.

I've learned...
That under everyone's hard shell is someone who wants to be appreciated
and loved.

I've learned....
That the Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

I've learned....
That to ignore the facts does not change the facts.

I've learned....
That when you plan to get even with someone, you are only letting that
person continue to hurt you.

I've learned....
That love, not time, heals all wounds.

I've learned...
That the easiest way for me to grow as a person is to surround myself
with people smarter than I am.

I've learned....
That everyone you meet deserves to be greeted with a smile.

I've learned....
That there's nothing sweeter than sleeping with your babies and feeling
their breath on your cheeks.

I've learned....
That no one is perfect until you fall in love with them.

I've learned....
That life is tough, but I'm tougher.

I've learned...
That opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you
miss.

I've learned....
That when you harbor bitterness, happiness will dock elsewhere.

I've learned..
That I wish I could have told those I cared about that I love them one
more time before they passed away.

I've learned....
That one should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow
he may have to eat them.

I've learned....
That a smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

I've learned....
That I can't choose how I feel, but I can choose what I do about it.

I've learned....
That when your newly born child holds your little finger in his little
fist,
that you're hooked for life.

I've learned....
That everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the
happiness
and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

I've learned ...
That it is best to give advice in only two circumstances; when it is
requested and when it is a life threatening situation.

I've learned....
That the less time I have to work with, the more things I get done.

EXCIIITED

Man I have SO much to update, this is going to be long. Seriously.

So FIRST thing on my mind...I bought some new cologne today! It's Kenneth Cole "Reaction". Collecting cologne I think has become my hobby over the last few months. I sort of have a collection now...Clinique Happy for men, Hugo, Armani Aqua di Gio, Kenneth Cole Black, Abercrombie regular and Woods, Obsession, and Calvin Klein One and Escape. "Duty Free" shops at the international airports are a good place to get them if you're interested.

So I got my schedule for LSU! I think I'm headed over there now for sure because I really enjoyed the orientation I went to and saw that these people are like really committed to their students that want to learn, and they're greatly improving the standards and requirements to get into the school and all. I met a few people going to John Hopkins and Baylor med school and all so I think if you work hard enough you'll do well. At the moment I'm signed up for 18 hours, 9 of which are honors. I figure I'll get the required courses I need out the way, and one requirement is 20 hours after 2 years...the other being to take an interdisciplinary course which is 6 hours. So I'm not just loading up to do it big or anything, it's the interdisc. course plus honors chemistry. They gave me the wrong interdisciplinary course though so I think I'll get it changed.

What, TWELVE MORE days before no more high school classes? I'm SO EXCITED. It's like I want it to come and I don't...because at the same time it means ONLY TWELVE MORE DAYS TO PULL UP YOUR GRADES SANJAY. I've been so effed up with Europe and Washington adn Spring Testing...I missed about 8 days of school and I've had a bio test EVERY DAY THIS WEEK. Not to mention philosophy logic and english tests sprinkled thoughout. I've not been sleeping much at all at night. I have one more tomorrow and thats going to be iiiit. I also had an English test today which luckily was at the same time I really wasnt feeling well and my eyes were puffy from lack of sleep so thats good. =) That sounds so made up, but I really just needed sleep. FINE, dont believe me.

I'm going to miss a lot of people when I go to college. The ones that are going away and all. Like Vijeth, Max, Rohan, Jacob, Kaiser (they may stay actually), my girl for four straight years Khaldia, and now Jaime, Danka, Leah, Joyatee, Naomi, my soccer buddy chandrew. And then like looots of people I don't hang out with outside of school...mainly all like undersclassmen like Beacham and Brett and Hope and and Patrick Carriere and Theron and Peter and Ben Stacey and Arman and Ben Kim and like, geez. Honestly like everyone. I can't put everyone on this list but like everyone in my bio class (well most) and like just all my classes. All those people I've said hey to and just caught up with for a few min in the halls...miss them too. Like Houma and Cade and Eric Siedel and Chris Handal and Leah Friedrichs and Andrew Friedrichs and Ben Delony and Christina and Veronica and Graham...AH! I kinda dont want to leave now. -sigh- No more thinking about that...and if you're randomally reading and I didnt mention you its NOT cuz i thought about you and didnt write you down...its cuz like i didnt "hop" to that point in time u know? hope so...

Prom's this Saturday. I'm soooo exciiiiited. I'm going with Betsy and it should be tons of fun. She's gonna be a fun date like winter formal. I feel quite lucky to be going with her. I like getting into tuxs and stuff. You only do it like what, 3 or 4 times your lifetime? If you're Indian that is. So that should be fun, and exciting. I'm kinda dissapointed that my senoir friends are full with eating and hanging out before. Couldn't make the top 24 I guess. But regardless, I need to make sure I have a good time bc it's senor prom.

Sports are going well I suppose. I played hookie on my first tennis match bc both my doubles partners couldnt show, main and backup. BGs football is sucking like hell no one really cares about it which gives me a bad feeling about the season. There's a gymnastics meet this Saturday but I dont think im competnig but I'll have to ask coach. There was a 3 on 3 tournament at LSU during spring invitational and 19 teams signed up...and Jacob Rohan Kaiser and I made it to the championship! Beat four teams, one which was Catholic, and lost to a game winning shot when the score was tied 8-8. Shucks. oh well, I won a double XL shirt out of it!

good day!

Yaaayyy I've been having an outstanding week. It's been the LONGEST WEEK ever and loaded with studying and work and all kinds of stuff, but it's been fun. I have a lot of bio to study for tomorrow's test and i've only gotten an hour of sleep...im afraid to go to bed cuz i'm certain I won't get to wake up.

So anyway, I'm excited to go to school every morning cuz it consists of playing basketball with my best friends, as well as healthy games of poker and 13. The mornings are great fun, and we have a good time even studying biology and stuff. We're dorks, I know, but I'm glad to see we're having a good time a month and a half before we're gooone.

Washington's in two days and I'm excited about that. We had the meeting yesterday and essentially we're free to do whatever in DC all of Saturday and Sunday. DC better watch out. THey're also giving us 200 dollars in cash the 1st day to spend money on about 5 or 6 meals during the trip. That's exciting, poker here I come.

*Disclaimer- Just kidding..*

My mom's birthday is tomorrow so my brother and I went to the mall after dance and gymnastics practice. We ended up getting her a rather large painting. I need to make a card for her soon. Including burning a CD, and studying bio. So yeah we bought that and I bought a really cool pair of pumas, i LOVE them. but best of all...

I got a job!! I was talking to the guy at journeys and all and then after some time asked him about working there and he was like yeah i could use you. he told me to turn in the app asap and if i turn it in tomorrow he could hire me. thtas really exciting, but too bad im out of town for two weeks. i told him that and he was like well turn it in and i still hope to be able to get u. im excited

ICA shows this friday so i hafta prepare for that. it just seems like my senior year is SO close from being done because i have so much coming ahead. coming back some time soon, holla

Update

Hey I'm sorry I haven't updated in so long it's just been quite hectic and I've just been kind of busy with everything that's been going on, in good ways and bad.

-sigh- So biggest news, Betsy broke up with me like for real last night. She was just feeling negative about our relationship, much to the fault of my own, and so she didn't want to feel that way anymore. I totally deserved it and didn't like feel any kind of animosity or whatever, but after it was done all night i was preeeetty sad. I talked to John Lee about it and he had some words of wisdom on how to just go about approaching situations in life and stuff. Anyway so this morning I woke up and felt horrible again because I like might lose this girl who I really should just treat so very well, and who's relaly like the most genuine person I know. Like she's just a sweet, warm, loveable person. So i called her and told her she deserves and i NEED to like run things completely differently and better, and that with her kinda bouncing on me the reality of her actually leaving hit and i'm able to appreciate what I have with her and not take it for granted. I hope things work out well and there're no second thoughts. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Last night was fun, I went to Groovin on the Grounds with Betsy cuz it was our last night really before I leave for Washington and Europe. Afterwards I saw Pavan and Jay and John Lee and hung out with them for a little bit. Jay and Pavan were totally out thogh so they slept, so John and I caught up. He's a good guy, I look up to him.

College search is somewhat coming to a close. I was sent on LSU Honors for a while but now I'm really pretty sure I'm going to Tulane Honors college instead. It's just a better opportunity and it's first tier and it won't cost as much as any other school besides LSU would. I'm going to tour it and see how it looks, but I think that's where I'm headed.

I leave for DC in a week. I'm ready to get my dance on I suppose. I'm in one couple dance for only 2 or 3 minutes, and it's kind of cool that I get a 3 or 4 day trip all expenses paid (cept 45 bucks) to dance. It's not cool that I'm missing school though cuz I'm just getting my grades tore apart in that class. I need to pick up my game. Anyway that'll be exciting, and then I come back for a day and head to Europe. -sigh- I don't know how that'll be.

I have ICA show coming up this Friday which should be cool. Y'all should come, it should be quite exotic. I'm doing the Tango and Indian dance again, and I'm excited cuz my mom can see me tango. Aw Betsys mom wanted to come see me too but idk if that'll be happening. We're also doing the Interact dance with the decade stuff, that should be fun. The garb is really hilarious. It'll be fun.

I'm doing gymnastics now which I really enjoy. I humungously regret not doing it earlier. I can only compete in one meet and then State I think, which I don't plan on doing too well on. It's really fun though, it's very challenging and totallyt akes different kinds of muscles and training then any other sport I've played. I was sore litearlly for three days after my 1st practice because of the vault. It totally took out my thighs and quads. I'm ready just in time for bball today.

Anyway, I'm going to get some work done now. I hope all of you are doing well and making the best of things. I'm really thinking more and more about like life in general and just the concept of living and...idk, not one person should waste their time ever being sad or upset or stressed about anything. Every person I've ever met has something cool and unique about them and like it kinda bothers me that they might spend time not enjoying every day. Idk, ik that all sounds kinda whatever but, whatever. I meant it.

Bio Notes (Circulatory)

Circulatory/Cardivascular System
- includes all of the blood vessels and blood
- delivers oxygen and nutrients to cells
- picks up wastes and delivers them to organs of excretion
- Heart
- hollow muscular organ
- located in the thoracic cavity
- special space called "mediastrinum"
- well protected
- good bone structure
- cone shaped; about the size of a clenchd fist
- weighs about a pound
- enclosed in double layer sac called "pericardium"
- space between membranes called pericardial fluid (reduces friction)
- heart is made up of 3 layers of muscle
- divided into four chambers
- atria (upper chambers)
- ventricles (lower chambers)
- all reinforced with more layers than just three primary
- separated by either a "sectum" or valves (upper and lower chambers seperated by these)
- right side the atrium is seperated from right ventricle by tri-cuspid valve
- left chambers are separated by bi-cuspid valve (mitral valve)
- attached to cusps of valves are strong fibers called "chorda tendinae"
- anchor the valves shut when the ventricles contract
- originate in mounds called "papillary muscle"
- if they don't anchor properly you get backflow blood into atrium
- "heart murmur"
- holes in septum also give that sound
- ventricular defects is hole between two ventricles also
- larger vessels that enter and exit heart have valves called "semi-lunar" valves
- the heart does not get nutrients from the blood that flows through it
- "corronary arteries" supply the heart with the nutrients it needs; first branch in aorta
- if blocked, the heart tissue is supplies nutrients for dies
- called "myrocardial infarction" (heart attack) --> bypass surgery
- bypass punches holes for blood flow to pass up the blockage
- leading causes for heart attack
- "foramen ovale" natural hole between the atrium
- how much leakage determines whether or not they'll fix heart murmur
- How blood circulates through heart
- atria work together and ventricles work together
- enters the right atrium through the "superior and anterior vena cava"
- superior vena cava is large and blue vein; inferior comes from bottom
- both of these dump blood in right atrium
- the pulmonary vein is is bringing blood from lungs into left atrium
- these are red; pulmonary arteries are blue
- "veins" return blood to heart
- atria then contracts, vavles open, and then the blood goes into the ventricles
- when ventricles contract, the blood that's int he left ventricle is forced into aorta
- takes blood through the rest of the body
- the blood that's in the right ventricle is force into large pulmonary artery
- blue because of deoxygenated blood (dark dark red)
- blood looks blue throuhg arm because of yellow pigment in skin
- can't mix de and oxygenated blood; less efficient and effective
- when you have a large hole you have a mixture
- Sequence of events in a normal heart beat is called "cardiac cycle"--> 2 phases
1) sytole- when ventricles contract (heart works hardest)
2) diastole-
- blood pressure is measurement of pressure in arteries; systolic pressure over diastolic pressure
- normal blood pressure is 120/80; lower in athletes--> means their hearts are working more efficiently
- sphygmomanometer is blood pressure instrument with mercury
- they look at diastolic pressure to see if you have high BP; if higher then pressure's much higher
- factors that effect your blood pressure
1) age, sex, body weight, physical activity (diastolic more, systolic too though)
2) fear, excitement, worry (increases systolic pressure)
3) deppression, grief, loneliness (all decreases blood pressure)
- hypertension (high blood pressure) for long period of time without treatment could lead to "stroke"
- blood vessel in the brain ruptures--> can kill or paralyze
- anurism is weakness in the wall of blood vessel; when it breaks
- heart beats about 72 times a day

Five Classes of Anti-Hypertensive drugs

1. Beta blockers- prevent effect of "epinephrine" [adreneline] which causes blood vessels to constrict
2. Alpha blockers- keep your blood vessels open
3. ACE inhibitors- prevnt blood vessels from constricting by blocking "angiotinsin II"
4. Calcium channel blockers- prevent blood vessels from constricting by blocking calcium from entering cell
5. Diuritics- increase your urine output; reduces blood volume and swelling in body
- doctors tell you to diet, exercise, and cut down on salts; then use diuritics, then use something else

- Conduction system in the heart
- heart is self exciting --> conduction system is responsible for this
- heart beat originates within the heart itself--> "myogenic"
- the heart is controlled by the "autonomic nervous system"
- throughout the heart are specialized tissues that initiate and distribute depolarization waves
- a huge part of the system is the "sinoatrial node" (SA node)
- in the wall of the right atrium near superior vena cava
- impulses start here
- once started impulses sends wave of excitation outward, causing both atria to contract
- some impulses hit second mass of tissues called "atrioventicular" node (AV node)
- located in right atrium near the sectum
- impulses spead through a group of fibers called the bundle of his? (atrioventricular bundle)
- branch into tiny fibers that give rise to tiny fibers that go up the ventricles
- when they're going up, they're called Purkinje's fibers
- the left ventricle is called the pacemaker
- the autonomic system controls the rate which ur heart beats
- a nerve that comes from your brain called teh "vagus" nerve; has fibers that go to all organs
- this is what makes ur heart speed up or slow down
- disorders of how the heart beats
1) arrhythmia- abnormal heart rhythm
2) tachycardia- when your heart beat is too fast
3) bradycardia- when your heart beat is too slow
4) atrial fibrullation- most common;
- atrials dont completely empty, and walls of atria to quiver
- goes up to 300-500 times a minute'
5) ventricular fibrullation- little or no blood leaves heart; circulation stops
- can be caused by electrical shock
- heart blockages
- certain drugs
- they take care of this by "defibrullation"
- expose heart to strong electrical shock (200 V)
- causes complete depolarization all at once
- its hoped that after refractory period the SA node will restore beat
6) angina- a sympton (not disease)
- marked by severe chest pain; caused by insufficient oxygen to carinary vessels
- stress can aggravate this
- nitroglycerine to treat it (give you patch)
- Phetal Circulation
- unique circulatory system because baby does not breathe or eat, but needs nutrients
- no direct connection between circulatory system of mom and phetus
- connected indirecty by structure called placenta
- makes its own blood and pumps its own blood
- heart starts beating at about 4 weeks from fertilization
- since lungs are not functional, they are "bypassed"
- blood flows from right atrium to left atrium through a hole called "foramen orvale"
- naturally occuring
- closes up after baby is born (9 months closed completely)
- any blood that gets into ventricle, its carried from pulmonary artery to the aorta
- called "ductus arteriosus"
- closes 12-15 hours after birth, and becomes ligament
- if doesnt close, mixing of oxygen bloods occurs and baby becomes bluish
- called "cyanotic"
- Blood vessles
1) arteries- carry blood away from the heart (carry oxygenated blood except for pulmonary)
- adapted for carrying blood under pressure
- made up of smooth, connective (3 layers)
- very elastic
- branch into smaller vessels called arterioles
2) veins- carry blood to the heart
- smooth muscle layers are not as well developed as arteries --> not as elastic
- have flaps or valves that keep blood moving upward against gravity
- less pressure
3) capillaries- connect arteries to veins
- single cell layer fit
- blood cells have to go through in single file lines
- Factors that effect blood flow
1) viscosity (the thicker the blood, the harder to go through)
- use "blood thinners" after heart attacks so heart doesn't work too hard
2) anemia (anemic people)- blood is thinner and goes through vessles easier
3) elasticity of arteries
- this is why you can feel the pulse of your arteries
- expansion and contraction of your blood vessels
- Take pulse in the "radial artery"
- neck is in carotid artery
- ankle is femoral artery
- 10 pints of blood/ 5 Liters
- Disorders
1) anyurism- weakness in the wall of the artery
- bulges out so it can be seen; can burst
2) artereosclerosis- hardening of arteries (next step after athiro)
3) athirosclerosis- lining of the arteries thickens and get rough bc of fatty material
4) varicose- abnormal dialation of superficial veins in the legs
- back pressure within the veins due to gravity
- crossing your legs and standing a lot
- lose elasticity

- Blood Cells
* Look at the pictures in the book
- type of connective tissue made of cells suspended in a liquid called 'plasma'
- components
1) Erythrocytes (Red Blood Cells)- bi-concade discs (go in on both sides)
- 7.5 microns in diameter (size is important clinically)
- lack a nucleus because of the function (they carry oxygen)
- oxygen is transported by a pigment called himoglobin
- an iron compound; looks like "cholorophyll" (it had magnesium)
- produced in red marrow
- live about 120 days
- about 2.5 million RBCs formed and destroyed every second
- the rate of production works on negative feedback mechanism
- when oxygen falls too low, substance in kidney called erithropoietin
encourages formation of red blood cells
- removed from circulation by disinigrating; fragments picked up by reticuloendothelial cells found in liver bone marrow and spleen
- macrophages
- they phagotize fragments to get rid of them (lot recycled)
- men have abou 5 million per cubic mm of blood
- women have about 4.5
- the spleen (part of lympathic and criculartory system) is center for storage and destruction of red blood cells
- can store up to a pint of concentrate blood
- can be released into circlation to prevent shock during blood loss
- "cementary of red blood cells"
- you can live without a spleen
- Hemacrit (tells you percent of cells in your blood)
- normal one holds 45% (too low-- cant donate blood)
2) Leucocyte (Whit Blood Cells; found in bone marrow)
- much larger than RBC
- most have a nucleus
- produced in marrow and lympathic tissue
- divided into two man groups
1) Granulocytes (when stained, there're dark granules in cytoplasm)
A. Nutrophils (most of them, 70%)
-they have a nucleus
- several lobes to it
B. Eosimophils (4%)
- similar to nutrophils, but granules are larger
- stain more of a reddish color
- have more if suffering from asthma of parasite inf.
C.
HILARIOUS!!

You Know You're Indian When....

Your dad is some sort of engineer or doctor.

Your parents say, "Don't forget your heritage."

You know what's going to happen in every Hindi movie before it happens

You're father and grandfathers have hair on their ears

An Asian woman comes on campus and people ask: "Is that your mother? Well then, is it your sister?"

Your relatives' houses smell like incense, mothballs or both

Your parents say, "Calculus? I took calculus in 8th grade!!"

You either really, really want to go to NYU or really, really want to stay away from it

"You want a stereo! When I was your age, I didn't even have shoes!"

Your dad still pulls his socks up to his knees, you know, the ones with the blue and pink stripes at the top.

Your family owns a tennis racquet.

You buy corn oil by the gallon.

Your family owns butcher knives bigger than your head.

You arrive one or two hours late to a party and think it's normal.

Everyone in your family has pet names, which sound nowhere close to their real names.

You are standing next to the two largest suitcases at the Airport.

You talk for an hour at the front door when leaving someone's house.

When your parents meet strangers and talk for a few minutes, you discover you're talking to a distant cousin.

Your parents don't realize phone connections to foreign countries have improved in the last two decades, and still scream at the top of their lungs when making long distance calls.

There is a sale on any item, you buy 100 of them.

You have a 'Singer Brother' sewing machine at home.

Your mother has a minor disagreement with her (or your dad's) sister and doesn't talk to her for ten years.

You hide everything from your parents.

Your mother does everything for you if you are male.

You do all the housework and cooking if you are female.

Your relatives alone could populate a small city.

Everyone is a family friend.

You know no one who has studied music.

You went to a university as far away from home as possible.

You still came back home to live with your parents after you had finished.

Your best friend got married at the age of 16.

You like the meat well done.

You eat onions with everything.

You use chilli sauce instead of tomato ketchup.

You say you hate Indian films but secretly watch them with your parents.

You teach Westerners swearwords in your language.

You order Indian food in your own language to impress the people you're with but the waiters don't understand you.

You avoid public places when with a member of the opposite sex, especially if there is an acquaintance within a 250 miles radius.

You always say "open the light" instead of "turn the light on".

You secure your baggage with a rope.

You're walking out of customs with your trolley at the airport and you see all twenty-five members of your family who have come to pick you up.

You go back to your parents' country and people treat you like a member of...the royal family.

You're parents would freak out if your sister wore a crop top baring her midriff...but wearing a sari is perfectly acceptable

Your parents call all your friends "Beta" whether they are Indian or not

Your parent are panicking if you aren't married when you turn 25

Either you really like Indians of the opposite sex or you can't stand them

Your mother measures wealth in gold and diamonds

A horoscope must decide your wedding date

Your parents drink 6 cups of tea a day

You are sick and tired of answering questions about "the dot"

Your friends could not explain your religion to someone if they tried

You could not explain your religion to someone if you tried

You have cousins you have never met, whose names you don't know, but who insist they're related to you, even though they bear NO resemblance to...anyone YOU know.

Your parents push the concept of an arranged marriage on you and try and demonstrate how well it works whenever they're not fighting.

You notice that whenever you go to another Indian's house, your parents always talk about work and business.

The second you pull out of someone's driveway, your parents start talking...about them.

Every few months your parents say when they're moving back to India

No one ever seems to call ahead of time to say they are coming over for a visit.

You're proud to be Indian - and you pass these jokes on to all your Indian friends!

UPDAAATE

-siiigh- Tons of updating needed.

FIRST OFF, I'm on two hours of sleep SOMEWHAT studying for a test that I really wasn't prepared for at ALL, and that was already postponed by a teacher that never postpones her tests...or occasionally. God would hvae it that it got postponed for a second time until Friday, so thats great news. I'm happy.

I am EXTREMELY busy this week. Or this month rather. I need type a 500 word essay for a scholarship by tomorrow, and also have our Interact convention lip sync coreographed. UGH NOT TO MENTION FRENCH. I forgot about that. And for Friday, study for the test and coreograph the boy's part of the Indian dance. Whatever, I'll get over it. Almost all of it is my fault anyway.

BETSYS SO SWEET. Yesterday was our 4 month and as a surprise she blindfolded me to take me to Chuck E Cheeses cuz as a kid I loved that place and I told her the story of how we'd drive for 2 hours on weekends to go when we lived in Arkansas and stuff. Anyway so she took me there and surprised me and i was totally awed that she would remember the story and do that for me.

College decisions are driving me nuts. I visited Honors College at LSU last weekend and it was really nice. I visit Tulane within the next two months. Here's the status on colleges:

1. Purdue accepted, scholarships pending (perhaps none)
2. LSU Honors accepted, $2000 out of pocket cost, scholarships pending
3. Tulane accepted, $22,000 scholarship, 26 grand with Tops, $15,000 out of pocket cost
4. Vanderbilt scholarship/acceptance pending
5. Universit of Alabama $4,000 prelim scholarship (others pending), $18,000 out of pocket cost
6. University of Georgia NOTHING

I'm really excited about college. Living in dorms, having responsibilyt, friends, freedom. It should be fun, and a challenge. I'm going to miss my friends a lot though.

-sigh- I think Betsys really, really upset with me. I'm really sad cuz she's such a sweet girl who's just straight up precious and I just, just...wish she'd be totally happy with me. =(
